It’s a beautiful Autumn morning. The sun is peaking through the trees, the cool brisk air caresses my face, and I am filled with a heart of gratitude. My eyes are wide open. Such beauty surrounds me. The leaves on the trees are beginning to change their colors and fall to the ground. Birds are singing songs of praise and squirrels are playfully chasing one another.
The summer garden is coming to the end of its life as the fall garden is beginning to show signs of new life. There is a feeling of joy and sadness as summer has come to an end. Excitement for the cooler weather, less mosquitos, the fragrant smells of Fall, the beauty of the changing season, the fun activities of Autumn. There is also a sense of anticipation as Winter is not too far away. As I sit with all of the feels this morning, I open my Bible to Genesis Chapter One, verses one through nineteen, and I am brought back to the beginning. The beginning of time, when the earth was formless and empty and dark.
You see, in the beginning there was “nothingness”. The earth was formless, dark, and empty. Yet the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. I was so struck by that- God was there in the beginning, when everything was dark and formless and empty. The same is true today. God is always there. He’s there in the beauty of the light. He’s there in the order and in all of the goodness. Yet at the same time He is there in the lacking, in the chaos, in the darkness, in the lost feelings and and uncertain moments. He is there. He is ready to speak. Ready to create order. Ready to shine light. Ready to call it good. Because in Him and through Him He makes ALL THINGS good! That’s just who He is.
All God had to do to create order, to create distinction, and to form the formless, was to speak. All He spoke came to be and He saw that it was good. God illustrates His intent, His character, His creativity, and His goodness right from the beginning. What a gift and privilege to be able to reap the blessings of that now!
Everything in creation has a purpose and was created on purpose. God created, He separated, and He poured out His goodness with us in mind- and it all should point back to Him . Our response ought to be awe and worship!
My prayer after reading, observing, and soaking in His word is this- Oh God, I praise You! You took that which was formless, dark, and empty, and you spoke life, and light, and purpose. You not only did this in the beginning of time but You also did this over my life. You made a way for me through Your Son Jesus. Thank you Abba! All praise to You oh Lord. Fill my eyes, my heart, and my mind with awe, and with wonder, and with gratitude as I reflect on what You did from the very beginning. Amen.
I pray that you are encouraged by His goodness, His intentionality, His care, and His love for You. God bless.
